The Art of Bonding

If you think about it, bonding is a very wierd concept. You can go into a situation not knowing anything about a person (or people in my case) and then when you least expect it, you can begin to form friendships. I mean people bond over life struggles and something you have in common. But, some bonding experiences happen (more often in my case) when you are just being yourself and enjoying peoples company.

Being in a house with 41 college students may sound tough. But, here it is actually quite easy. Sure there are clicks and everything, but generally people branch out and make new friends that they never would have noticed otherwise. This London house has been time and time again contrasted to earlier groups and appearently we are the most quiet, well behaved, and most health conscience people (I dont know where that one came from ha) that this faculty has ever seen. What makes us so different?

The house in general has had a lot of opportunities to begin bonding. As wierd as it may sound, the Swine flu scare in our house was one of the very first experiences. Also little things like watching T.V. shows together. Specifically because american T.V. doesn't come on til 8 hours after it appears in Cali. (and I am not staying up until 4 AM to watch Gossip Girl) we tend to have a T.V. gathering to watch shows that interest us.

Now I have always been made fun of by EVERYONE of how ditzy and "blonde" i am, but here everyone thinks its hysterical. I dont quite know why. but, even me doing stupid things is a way I am bonding and forming closer relationships. Just being myself can go a long way. It is kind of like jumping headfirst into a swimming pool. I just have to do it as opposed to being closed off.

You really do learn a lot about yourself when you are in a foreign country with people you didnt really know.

  1. Ashley!! Glad to hear your group's bonding well! And just wait until you start traveling together, that's when you really get to know each other.
